THE HUMANITIES OF THE ANTHROPOCENE
PRINCIPLES
Mission: To evolve the Humanities and help mitigate the problems of the Anthropocene.

DISCOVERY
The CulturePlex research on the Humans of the Anthropocene revolves around our actions, our language, our connections, and the effects they have at multiple scales. We bring together humanistic questions with new tools and methods of inquiry.

CULTURAL NETWORKS
By deploying the Cultural Network we understand the fundamental aspects of an organization, a social media event, and a cultural phenomenon. We also intervene and design solutions for our partners.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
We use several AI techniques (including Machine Learning) in processes of optimization and data analysis for our own projects and those with our partners. AI techniques allow us to think and act on a different scale than traditional research tools. We have learnt that when we combine both AI techniques and traditional tools our research is more effective and precise.
LANGUAGE OF EVENTS
The Event is the main process that emerges from our rapid, massive and constant digital interactions. Events are the creators of new realities via the language they produce both on and offline. We study the Language of Events by combining key philosophical concepts and the AI analysis of mass amounts of human and machine produced language.
STUDIOS
The CulturePlex Studios are a collection of organizational tools we use to work with our partners on special projects. The Studios apply and adapt our tools and models to the specific needs of these partners. We have engaged with diverse partners in finance, cybersecurity, precision agriculture, cultural management, and research to solve some of the most pressing issues they face.
The collaboration formulas we have employed include the support of the Ontario Centers of Innovation, MITACS, and direct research contracts.
CREATIVITY
Creativity Studios
(DIGIHUM 2127B)
Creativity is the craftsmanship of the self. Students will implement principles of Digital Craftsmanship to engage with their own creative lives. They will immerse in various technologies, learn how to transform a creative idea into a business plan, and learn about the process of creation and its relation with their own life.
